Delegate Robert D. “Bobby” Orrock was first elected to Virginia’s
House of Delegates in 1989, where he has served the 54th District
for the past 18 sessions of the General Assembly. A teacher at
Spotsylvania High School, he is keenly aware of the importance of
creating a Virginia where coming generations will have better
opportunities to compete in a world economy, while being better able
to live, learn, work and raise their families.

Bobby has worked to reduce taxes on hard-working Virginia families.
He has supported legislation that would reduce the sales tax on
food, eliminate the hurtful estate tax, increase the per-child tax
credit for educational purposes, and create long-term tax credits
for health insurance for senior citizens.
A strong supporter of Virginia values, Bobby worked to pass the
Defense of Marriage Act that defines marriage as between one man and
one woman. He has also supported voluntary prayers in schools,
ensuring prayer at public meetings and posting the motto “In God We
Trust” in public buildings. Bobby believes in protecting life by
supporting parental notification for minors who seek abortions, and
opposing state funding of abortions and partial-birth abortions.
In the 2007 session of the General Assembly, Bobby was a key
backer of the comprehensive solution to Virginia’s transportation
problems and needs – without imposing burdensome taxes on the
citizens of Virginia.
Bobby remains heavily active in local civic organizations. He is
an EMT with the Ladysmith Volunteer Rescue Squad, a trustee for the
Spotsylvania Volunteer Rescue Squad, a board member for the Moss
Free Clinic and a hunter safety instructor with the Virginia Game
Commission. Bobby serves as a deacon and trustee at Bethany Baptist
Church and also works part-time as a radio announcer at WFLS radio
in Fredericksburg.
Bobby has three adult children: Robert D., Jr, Lila Joanna and
Welford Thomas. He lives in Woodford, Virginia at historic Medway
Farm in Caroline County.
He is Vice Chairman of the House Finance Committee, while also
serving on the Committees of Health, Welfare and Institutions;
Agriculture, Chesapeake and Natural Resources; and Counties, Cities
and Towns.
The 54th House district includes parts of Caroline and
Spotsylvania Counties.
